What Services do you provide?

Transportation – We will take you pretty much anywhere you’d like to go on the Cape - medical, dental, veterinary, physical therapy or hair dresser appointments, for example, or errands, shopping and social and cultural events.  Even a walk on the beach.

Light Home Maintenance
 – This includes small handyman services such as changing screens, storing and retrieving air conditioners, changing light bulbs, organizing summer/winter clothing or deck furniture and changing smoke detector batteries.  One volunteer assembled a tricky cat carrier and another helped repot a special plant.

Selected Technical Support
 – Having trouble understanding your TV remote or your new printer?  Need a refresher on how to use a web browser?  We’ll help with these and other modest technical or IT questions.

General Support
 – We provide respite and social visits to seniors who can’t leave home and their caregivers who need a break.  And we’ll help with your mail or organizing your paperwork and run a quick errand if you can’t get out.

A few things we won’t do – Anything requiring a license other than for driving, such as plumbing or electrical work.  Any handyman chore that takes more than about 2 hours.  Anything that involves personal or medical care, such as bathing, dressing or feeding, or giving medications.  Anything requiring a fiduciary relationship, such as writing checks.

How do I ask for a service?
The easiest way is to call the office at xxx-xxx-xxxx.  Just explain what you need.  If you call outside of normal office hours or if the person is busy helping another member please leave a message.  Be sure to include a brief description of what you need for a home request or where and when you need to go for an appointment.  Make sure you give your name clearly. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
How do I become a member?
To begin the process of joining our Village you can sign up online Member Signup / Information or call the office at xxx-xxx-xxxx.
How much lead time is needed for service requests?
We usually need about a week to fill a service request.  If this is an medical appointment that has just been arranged we can try to accommodate a shorter period - but there are no guarantees.

You should usually tell us about medical appointments as soon as you make them.  Even an appointment made a year in advance is fine to put on our calendar.
How many services can I request in any given time?
It is best if we know about your requests as far in advance as possible.  If you have a series of medical appointments at fixed times, tell us about them as soon as you know.  If you are requesting a regularly scheduled service such as shopping every Thursday afternoon, you can make this request just once. You do not need to call us back unless something ichanges.  For example if you are taking a trip and don't need to shop during that time, just let us know when you schedule the trip.
Does the Village need more volunteers?
Our Village always needs more volunteers in order to serve all the people who want to join the Village.  You can begin the process online by clicking here. Become a Volunteer
What skills does the Village need from volunteers other than services such as changing lightbulbs, providing transportation, and miscellaneous chores?
As an all-volunteer village we rely on the skills and enthusiasm of volunteers to run our Village. Our "call managers" who staff our (virtual) office are the voice of the Village when a member calls with a request for information or a service.  We can always use more call managers.  If you have skills with outreach, particularly writing press releases, meeting with groups as a Village ambasador, or working with websites we can use your help.

Here are examples of what some Villages include in their FAQs.  Often, Villages have FAQs when the Village start up, but find they are not necessary when the Villages are more known in their community.
